Film Night

film-night

Movie Nights

Each month we will get together on a Monday evening to see one of the biggest new film releases at Cineworld in the Marina (across from the Bowlplex). Information about our upcoming films will be available on our website and Facebook page. Showtimes will generally be in the evening, but we will confirm exact times as soon as they are available from Cineworld.

Cost
Tickets are £6 (normally £10.20) and are subsidised by both Cineworld (thank you Jade!) and Peer Action. A limited number of tickets will be available to reserve each month on our website.

Other Film Deals
We know that some of you may be able to purchase tickets cheaper or have unlimited cinema passes. If this is the case, simply secure your own ticket and meet us at the cinema!

Event Prices: All Peer Action events are subsidised, whether this is a percentage off costs, special deals or free refreshments. Where possible, we ask members to pay the advertised event price as people tend to engage more in events they contribute towards. However, we appreciate that there are times when our members may not have sufficient financial resources available to them and we do not feel that this should be a barrier to attending our events. Additional subsidy (up to the entire cost) may be available on request. Please message us or speak to the event organiser on the event phone if this is an issue for you.

Meditation

medi2

Meditation

This is a weekly drop in meditation group for people living with or affected by HIV commencing on Tuesday 12th January 2016. A wonderful opportunity to learn and directly experience the benefits of different meditation techniques (suitable for everyone) in a safe space.

Meditation is being fully present with the whole of your experience without judgement. It’s a state of relaxed awareness, calm awakeness, being fully in your body, connected to yourself and at the same time connected to everything.

Meditation promotes a feeling of well-being and calmness regardless of external circumstances. We all have glimpses of this state many times in our daily lives, and by practising meditation we cultivate this state so that, with time, it becomes our default.

There’s no need to follow a specific religion or philosophy for practicing meditation, anyone can do it and everyone benefits from it. In these sessions, we will explore different techniques that induce the meditative state so you can directly experience the benefits of this practice. There will also be space for discussion and the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences (if you choose to do so).

Galit Mersand teaches meditative movement (which she calls ‘Moving Body Awareness’), Yoga and belly dance. She usuallt facilitates meditation sessions for people who haven’t had any previous experience, making it accessible, safe and simple. Sessions will be made of sitting meditation practices as well as Moving Body Awareness exercises.

Moving Body Awareness exercises:

are conducive to the meditative state, making the practice a holistic experience of body and mind
are physically active & dynamic with music used throughout (despite their meditative nature)
are low impact and structured in a way that enables students to listen to their bodies and respond to them intuitively and spontaneously
Galit is very excited to be part of Peer Action and is looking forward to meeting and practising with you 🙂

Women

Women

Being affected by a HIV+ status is a life-changing experience.

Even when circumstances allow managing the condition satisfactorily, it might become a sort of a burden, something hard to bear on one’s own.

Whether you are in or out of employment, looking after yourself or your family, caring for a friend or being cared for – whatever your situation is – to pursue your goals you may have the need to connect to other women who face the same issues and challenges as you do.

Join us!

You can just drop in at any Peer Action scheduled activity to meet other people who understand what you are going trough. There’s a variety of activities for your choice, from well-being sessions to social events, always in a confidential, friendly and relaxed setting.

We would like to make our group stronger, and your views are important to help us identify which routes we should follow as a women’s group. If you’d like to know more about what we do and how you can get involved, please contact us – we’ll be very happy to talk to you about our work.

iCal/Google Calendar

Anyone with an electronic calendar device can now directly subscribe to the public event calendar via the links below to receive calendars for the events of their choice. Depending on your device’s system, changes and new events may automatically be updated or you may need to remove and re-add the calendars to see any changes.

These links are in an open format supported by all WebCal services and only work if you have a Calendar program on your device (phone or computer). Web browsers do not recognise the WebCal files loaded by these programs, so don’t worry – these won’t do anything if you don’t have the appropriate online calendar program on your device.
